The Savannah Bananas hosted the High Point-Thomasville HiToms Monday evening at Grayson Stadium in front of another sold out crowd(4,147). It was ring ceremony night for the 2016 Bananas players for winning the CPL league championship.
Down 5 runs going into the bottom of the 5th inning, Savannah rallied to win the game 8-5.
Thomasville got off to a quick start in the first inning with the first three batters getting a single, double, and double to score 2 runs and the third run was scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. In the 5th the HiToms scored 2 runs. Jordan Howard,2b(Lee University) singled, stole second, attempted to steal third and scored when the catcher was charged with a throwing error. The second run was scored on a home run over the left field fence by Mason McClellan,3b(Columbus State).
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 5th inning: Mike Huggins,3b(Georgia State) doubled and went to third when Christian Hollie,ss(UT-Arlington) singled. Logan Mattix,cf(Georgia College) doubled to drive in 2 runs. A double by Brandon Purcell,c(Georgia College) scored the third run.
The Bananas scored 3 runs in the 6th inning and added a run in the 7th inning.
The final run for Savannah was scored in the 8th inning when Hollie tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Pitching in relief for Savannah, Elliot Forde,(Misericordia) was superb pitching 4 scoreless innings and striking out 5 batters(striking out the side in the 8th inning). With the win he is 1-0.
Recently arriving in town and making his debut for Savannah, Hollie was a catalyst for the team going 2-for-5 and scoring 3 runs.
The next Banana home game is Thursday, June 8th against the Lexington County Blowfish starting at 7:05pm. This game is sold out.
