Savannah Bananas 8 Gastonia Grizzlies 3

The Savannah Bananas played the Gastonia Grizzlies at Grayson Stadium Friday evening(June 16). The game was sold out(7th straight home game sold out) and the announced attendance was 4,244.

Savannah scored at least 1 run every inning thru 6 innings and won 8-3. The Bananas out hit the Grizzlies 13-8. Both teams committed 3 errors.

Leading off the first inning for Savannah, Christian Hollie,2b(UT-Arlington) reached first on an infield hit, stole second, stole third and scored on a balk.

Savannah scored a run in the 2nd inning. Chris Bashlor,dh(Lipscomb University) reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman , advanced to third on a double by Utah Jones,ss(North Carolina) and scored on a ground out.

Leading off the 3rd inning for the Bananas, Logan Mattix,cf(Georgia College) hit a home run over the left field fence- his second home run of the season.

Utah Jones hit his first home run of the season over the left field fence in the 4th inning giving Savannah a 4-2 lead.

Gastonia scored 2 runs in the 4th inning and added their final run in the 8th inning- with the bases loaded, a single by Chance Bowden,1b(Catawba) scored a run.

Savannah scored 3 runs in the 5th inning and scored their final run in the 6th inning.

Getting 2 hits each for Savannah, Hollie, Mattix,Jones, and Brandon Purcell,c(Georgia College).

Savannah starting pitcher, Bryan Cruse,(Memphis) (W,2-0), pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, no BB, and struck out 2 batters. Reliever Hunter Phillips(Georgia Southern) pitched 2 shoutout  innings, allowed 1 hit and had 5 strikeouts.

The next home game for Savannah at Grayson Stadium is Monday at 7:05pm against Fayetteville SwampDogs. Monday is Bark-in-the park night and their are a few tickets left.
