The Savannah Bananas played the Fayetteville SwampDogs at Grayson Stadium Monday(June 19, 2017) in front of 4,147 fans( the 8th consecutive home game sold out). It was Bark in the Park night- it was announced their were over 400 dogs in the park.
Savannah rallied in the late innings to win the game 8-7. Both teams had 9 hits and both teams committed 4 errors.
In the second inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. With the bases loaded, Brandon Purcell,c(Georgia College) reached base on an error by the third baseman to drive in a run. Anthony Brockton,lf(St.Johns University) reached first base on an error by the shortstop allowing the second run to score
Fayetteville scored 3 runs in the 4th inning. Michael Farnell,c(Murray State University) tripled to drive in 2 runs. Farnell scored on a ground out. The SwampDogs scored 2 runs in the 5th inning and 2 runs in the 6th inning.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and 1run in the 5th inning.
Trailing by a run going into the 8th inning, a home run by Christian Hollie,3b(UT-Arlington) over the left field fence tired the score at 7-7. Savannah manufactured the winning run which scored on sac fly hit to right field by Brockton. It was Hollie's second home run of the season and he increased his batting average to .422.
Pitching 2 shutout innings in relief for Savannah, Hunter Phillips(Georgia Southern University) (W,1-1) walked 2 and struck out 5 batters.
Leading hitter for the Bananas was Purcell who was 4-for-5 with 3 singles, a double and 1 RBI.
The next home game for Savannah is Thursday, June 22 gains the Florence RedWolves at Grayson Stadium starting at 7:05.
