Game 1 Grizzlies 2 Bananas 1
The Savannah Bananas played a double header Wednesday June 14th at Grayson Stadium against the Gastonia Grizzlies. It was announced the double header has been sold out-6th straight home games have been sold out. The announced attendance was 4,184.
Grizzlies won the first game 2-1 and won the second game 2-1.
Game one:
Savannah scored their run in the 3rd inning when leading off the inning, Gary Mattis,rf(Florida Atlantic) walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a fly out to right field and scored on a throwing error by the right fielder.
Gastonia scored their two runs in the 6th inning on a walk and 4 hits.
Starting pitcher for Gastonia, Brandon Stephens(UNC Greensboro), was sharp pitching 6 2/3 solid innings, allowing 1 runs on 1 hit, 2BB, and 4 strikeouts. (W,1-1).
Bananas starting pitcher, Elliot Forde(Misericordia) pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5 batters. After the game, Elliot told me he has been "under the weather" and that this was his longest outing this season- he started the season as a reliever. With the loss his record is 1-1 and his ERA is 1.72.
