The Savannah Bananas played the Florence RedWolves Friday evening, July,13th at Grayson Stadium in front of another sold out crowd, 4,089. The 16th straight home game sold out.
Savannah survived a wild 9th inning to win the game 6-5.
Sending 8 batters to the plate in the 1st inning, Florence scored 2 runs. Leading off the 1st inning, Mason Hibbeler,ss(Texas) tripled and scored on a single by Clay Casey,rf(Delta State). With the bases loaded, Riley King,1b(Georgi) walked to score the second run.
Savannah scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning. A single by Garrett Nelson,1b(Long Beach State) drove in the first run. A single by Utah Jones,ss(UNC) plated a run. The third run scored on single by Jake Howard,3b(North Georgia). The 4th run scored on a ground out. The Bananas scored a run in the 6th inning and a run in the 7th inning.
It was a wild 9th inning, the RedWolves first 2 batters walked and both scored on a double by Storme Cooper,2b(Southern Mississippi). Two more batters walked and a single by Tyler Webb,cf(Memphis) scored the 3rd run and the final out was recorded with a runner trying to score and was thrown out at the plate by an accurate throw by the right fielder,Anthony Brocato, to end the game.
Savannah starting pitcher, Elliot Forde,(Misericordia) (W,3-2) pitched 6 solid innings, allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, 3BB, and 8 strike outs.
Playing in his third game of the season for Savannah, Howard was 2-for-4 with an RBI and he raised his batting average to .455.
The next Savannah home game is Monday July 17th against the Lexington County Blowfish at Grayson Stadium starting at 7:05pm. This game is sold out.
