The Savannah Bananas played the Gastonia Grizzlies Friday evening, July 28th at Grayson Stadium in front of another sold out crowd 4,240. The game was delayed for over 40 minutes because of rain and lighting in the area.
Fans saw plenty. Bryce Fischer 2-for-4, HR, 2runs scored and 1RBI
of action with Savannah outhitting Gastonia 12-9 and winning the game 14-8.
Two walks and a single by Garrett Nelson,rf(Long Beach State) loaded the bases for Savannah in the 2nd inning. One run scored on a fielders choice and a run scored on a double steal.
In the 3rd inning, a home run over the left field fence by Bryce Fischer,lf(Oklahoma State) gave Savannah a 3-0 lead. It was his 3rd home run of the season.
Gastonia scored their first run in the 5th inning when shortstop Kyle Wilson(Austin Peay) was hit by a pitch, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a double by Chas Davey,3b(Erskine).
A double with the bases loaded by Kyle Wilson plated 3 runs for the Grizzlies in the 6th inning.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 6th inning, highlited by an RBI single by Jake Howard,3b(North Georgia). A single by Nelson drove in 2 runs.
In the 7th inning Savannah scored a run on a single by Logan Mattix,cf(Georgia College) followed by a double by Christian Hollie,2b(UT-Arlington).
It was a big 8th inning for the Bananas sending 13 players to the plate and scoring 7 runs.
Sending 9 batters to the plate in the 9th inning, Gastonia scored 4 runs.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Kenneth LaPierre(San Diego State) (W,5-1), pitched 6 innings, allowed 4 runs, on 6 hits, struck out 9 batters and walked 2 batters.
Banana relievers: Andrew Dill(Anderson University) struck out 3 batters he faced in the 7th inning followed by Elliott Forde(Misericordia) pitching the 8th inning striking out the 3 batters he faced.
The next home game for Savannah is Monday, July 31st against the Wilmington Sharks(15-4) at Grayson Stadium starting at 7:05 pm.
