The Savannah Bananas returned home to Grayson Stadium Thursday evening, June 6th, to play the Florence RedWolves in front of 4,087 fans. Every home game thus far has been sold out.
Trailing 3-2 after 5 innings, Savannah scored 8 runs in the 6th inning and won the game 10-5.
Florence scored 3 runs in the 5th inning. A single by Storme Cooper,2b(Southern Mississippi) drove in a run. A single by Zach Jacobs,1b(FMU) drove in 2 runs. In the 7th inning, Florence added 2 more runs.
With the bases loaded for Savannah in the 6th inning, a single by Jacob Southern,dh(Jacksonville) scored the first run of the inning. Pinch hitting for the Bananas with the bases loaded, Bryce Fisher(Oklahoma State) hit a line drive over the right field fence for the first grand slam of the season. The Bananas added 3 more runs in the inning.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Kenneth LaPierre(San Diego State) pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, 0BB, and 5 strikeouts. With the win he is 3-0.
One of the leading hitter for the Bananas, Southern was 3-for-4, 1RBI and 2 runs scored.
The next home game for Savannah, is Saturday, July 8th against Martinsville Mustangs starting at 7:05. This game is sold out.
