Bananas/ Grizzlies game rained out

The Savannah Bananas returned home to Grayson Stadium Monday evening to play the Gastonia Grizzlies.

The game was cancelled due to heavy rain and unplayable field.

Jesse Cole, owner, told the fans they can use their rain out tickets tonight for a game scheduled on August 6th.

Savannah Bananas 11 Asheboro Copperheads 3

The Savannah Bananas traveled to Asheboro, North Carolina to play the Asheboro Copperheads Saturday, July1st. 

Savannah exploded for 11 runs on 7 hits and won the game 11-3.

The Bananas finished the first half of the season with a 13-14 record.

The Bananas got off to a fast start scoring 3 runs in the first inning highlighted by a 2 run double by All-Star John Cassala,lf(Jacksonville). Matthew Pita,2b(VMI) hit a 3 run home run in the 2 inning to give the Bananas a 6-1 lead. Savannah added 2 runs in the 7th inning and 2 runs in the 8th inning.

Starting Savannah pitcher, Bryan Cruse (Memphis),W,3-0, pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 3K's and 2BB.

CPL reports the second half of the season starts July 2, 2017.

Matthew Pita was 2-for-4, 3 RBI's  and 3 runs scored.

Rain out

The game schedule tonight between the Savannah Bananas and the Lexington County Blowfish was cancelled because of rain and lighting in the area. Staff worked for hours getting the field in playable condition, the rains came again and the tarp was placed on the field. Jesse Cole, owner, announced to the fans the ticket for tonight's game can be used for a game scheduled on August 2. The next Savannah home game at Grayson Stadium is Monday, July 3rd against the Gastonia Grizzlies- their will be fireworks after the game. This game is sold out.



All Star Game

Just saw the West All Star roster for the All Star  Game. Congratulations to the Savannah Bananas players:

The CPL All Star Game will be held on Monday, July 10, starting at 7:00pm at Holly Springs, N.C.

Substitute Bat Boy

Attending the Bananas first game of double header Wednesday against the Florence RedWolves, I met and visited with Tonya. She informed me that her son was the fill in bat boy for the double header. Tonya sent me a bio of her son.

Hi Wally! What a pleasure to meet you & have the joy to sit by you today. My Sons name Is PJ Fox he is 12 years old & attends the STEM Academy in Savannah. He lives & breathes baseball ⚾️ he plays baseball for his school & plays with the Chain academy. He is super excited to have the opportunity to be the fill in  bat boy for the Bananas. He loves the interaction with the players.

Savannah Bananas 4 Florence RedWolves 2

The second game of the double header between the Savannah Bananas and the Florence RedWolves was played in front of a sold out crowd at Grayson Stadium- 12th consecutive home game sold out. The announced attendance was 4,177. Savannah won the game 4-2.
Game 2
Florence scored their 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases. One run scored on a single by Christian Flint,ss(South Carolina).The second run scored on a single by Tanner Mann-Fix,(Florence-Darlington Tech).
Savannah tied the score at 2-2 in their second inning. Jacob Southern,dh(Jacksonville) walked and advanced to third on a single by Matthew Pita,2b(VMI). A single by Utah Jones,ss(UNC) scored the first run and the second run scored on a fielders choice by Christian Hollie,3b(UT-Arlington).
With the bases loaded in the 6th inning for Savannah, Jacob Southern singled to drive in 2 runs.
Savannah starter, Kenneth LaPierre pitched a complete game, 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, no walks and struck out 5 batters.

                                     Kennith LaPierre improved his record to 2-0 with the win.
The next home game for Savannah is Friday, June 30th against the Lexington County Blowfish starting at 7:05 pm. This game is sold out.

Bananas 5 RedWolves 2

The Savannah Bananas played a double header Wednesday at Grayson Stadium against the Florence RedWolves. The first game started at noon. Savannah won 5-2. It was the 11th conceutive sellout- the announced attendance was 4,010.
Game one.
Florence scored their first run in the 2nd inning: Masson Hibbeler,ss(Texas) walked and scored on a double by Muta Crusoe,lf(Lincoln Memorial).
Savannah scored a run in the second inning with  2 outs, Jacob Southern,dh(Jacksonville) doubled and scored on a single by Utah Jones,ss(UNC).
The RedWolves scored their final run in the 4th inning when Hibbeler singled, stole second and scored on a single by Cornell Nixon,2b(Eastern Kentucky).
The Bananas scored 2 runs in the 4th inning. Southern singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Jones. A single by Jakob Nunez,c(UT Arlington) scored Jones.
Savannah added 2 runs in the 6th inning when Nunez singled to drive in the 2 runs(he had 3 RBI's for the game).
Pitching in relief for Savannah, Hunter Phillips, (W,3-1) pitched 2 shutout innings, struck out 1 batter, and allowed 1 hit.

                                Utah Jones was 2-for-3, with 2RBI's and a run scored.
